A most principled and dedicated Minister Mo swapped jokes and described some Northern Ireland experiences.
The Need
The citizens of the UK expect high standards of political leadership and public service integrity that reflects the will of the people.
The events of 2009 and last decade has exposed failure by our politicians and their leadership to be proactive in developing a political/democratic system that UK citizens rightly deserve.
The promised
'whiter than white' political establishment pledge has not been realised and faith in politicians is at an all time low.
As citizens living in the country which founded
'the mother of all Parliaments' we believe our historic Parliamentary institution has been brought into disrepute by its own inherent weaknesses.
Ongoing media
'sleaze allegations' against Parliamentarians and the failure to uphold the
'seven principles of public life' over the last decade or so has manifested in abuse of public monies and subsequent public condemnation of the MP expense/allowance scandal of 2009.
This is not the model of democracy that UK citizens want or deserve. Our Parliament should be a centre of excellence and a benchmark for all nations to aspire to. Independent minded and principled MPs are often marginalised within the current party system and that must change.
There are positive new approaches available but the initiatives must now come from the people as the Parliamentary/political establishment have failed to deliver.
