The code of conduct was submitted to Cherie Blair on two occasions in No10 but regretfully not taken up by the Prime Minister.

EXTRACT FROM LETTER SENT TO MPs (January 2001)

We are certain that your constituents and potential voters will welcome this initiative if you endorse the framework and spirit of the code. Quality assurance and performance management/targets etc are promoted by politicians and this Government in particular. This code will give MPs the opportunity to show the electorate that they are there solely to serve the public. The other message sent out will be that politicians do practise what they preach...
